We’re not dead! Let’s partay!

Image of old folks partyingChilean Great grandmother Teresa Castro, 84, is so pleased that she made it through the winter, she joined thousands of other happy-to-be-still-breathing Chilean OAPs for a party on Tuesday.

Teresa and her 83 year old husband danced and cheered along with 3,000 other old folks at a party to celebrate the end of the Southern Hemisphere winter, when dense pollution and low temperatures raise the risk of fatal respiratory illnesses in the elderly.

The knee’s up, for those who could get their knees up, what with the arthritis and all, was joined by Chile’s first woman President Michelle Bachelet - even though she’s not that old, damn gatecrashers - who took part in an aerobics session.

“We made it through August,” Bachelet told retirees, many of whom were dressed in traditional folk costumes; warm ones I assume.

I think this should be adopted globally by everyone, not just the elderly. Regular parties to celebrate the fact you woke up alive would be awesome.

Think of the merchandising opportunities too! Cards that say ‘Congratulations, you’re not dead’ and T shirts that read ‘I’m still alive. Go me’. Mugs that show corpses then the words, ‘It’s not you!’ or even heart monitors that constantly update you on your living status; a bit like scales that speak your weight…

‘You are not dead’ or conversely, ‘You have died, please try again’

Epic!
